Jack of all genres, master of none. I started in poetry, tried out fiction, and found my way into memoir. I dabble in each now, I suppose.

Masculinity Week
If you're man enough. Define Manhood. If you're woman enough. Define Manhood. Do it with whatever form your hands can make words with. It's Masculinity Week on my calendar. So truthfully, I'm academically curious.
andrethegiant in Stream of Consciousness

To be a man means the opposite of what most think. The most manly trait is dependence.

How would you group these eight words into two categories: rocks, angels, frogs, heaven, men, God, trees, Satan.

Many would try to separate the spiritual from the earthly, some would try to separate the intelligent from those lacking intelligence.

The truth is, God is on one said and everything else is on the other. God is Creator. Everything else is creation.

What is man? Dependent on God. Just as dependent as a tree or a rock or a frog.

If God decides that tomorrow you should die, you will.

If God decides that tomorrow you will live, you will.

If God decides that tomorrow you will watch a particular movie, you can bet that you will.

God always gets His way.

Men only get their way, when their way is God's way.

Challenge
Write something along the topic of either death, love, fear, or joy.
Write something about one of the four topics provided. You may use more than one in your piece if you would like.

Afraid

We're only afraid when the things that give us joy might be taken away.

We're afraid when change comes because stability gives us joy.

We're afraid when our lovers are upset because they might take themselves away.

We're afraid when death knocks because life gives us joy.

Challenge of the Month VI: April
Something to Lose. What does it feel like to cherish something or someone with every fiber of your being? Is it terrifying, as though any second it could disappear? Or is it a source of comfort, solid ground to stand on, an anchor? Write about having something to lose. $100 purse to the winner. The best entries will be shared with publishers. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.

JK and Jesus

"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - JK Rowling and Jesus.

You know that feeling, like you've forgotten something, but can't figure out what it is?

You know that feeling, like you're a complete and total fraud, yet somehow, you've managed to fool the entirety of your acquaintance into thinking you're put-together and brilliant?

You know that feeling of suspicion that you push away when your spouse might be fooling around with someone else, but you couldn’t possibly handle that if it were true, so you push it away and pretend you’re being paranoid?

You know that feeling when you’re at your parents’ house, but they’ve remodeled, and it no longer feels like home?

Put them all together and what have you got: lost.

Challenge
Write a joke.
It can be lame or boring, as long as it's original! I don't want to see ones I've heard before!

Animal Joke

What does an elephant use for a tampon?

A sheep.

#joke #funny #reaching #minimum #wordcount

Challenge
In fifteen words, write about an embarrassing moment.
It's allowed to be imaginary or exaggerated, but the person suffering embarrassment must be you!

2,000 to One

At seventeen, my voice cracked in front of 2,000 women. And the one I loved.

Plummeting Thoughts. Thoughts you have as you fall to your inevitable doom. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.

Questioning the Fall

Fall.

The question isn't "Why?" But rather, "Was this inevitable?" Could there have been another option for me? Wasn't this forewritten in the stars and in the narrative of the Creator?

Fall.

Leaves fall. Inanimate objects fall. If I am falling, does that mean I am inanimate? Does that mean I’m sub-human? Sub-animal? Aren’t all suicides, in their own way, sub-human? It makes sense. They cannot bear to be human, so they escape. They cannot bear to live in this kingdom, so they fall.

Fall.

They say Lucifer fell and cannot be forgiven, cannot be raised to new life like the rest of creation. Can suicides? Does it depend on how we choose to go? Is a bullet still falling, or is it different? I mean, there has to be a fall, a crumple to the ground, no matter how one chooses. Pills, noose, razor blade, all have a downward motion.

Fall.

Potential is what they’ll all cry at the funeral. Wasted potential. What could have been? As if the things accomplished in this life can change the next. How could my ridiculous, selfish creations matter in eternity, in perfection, in Paradise? They couldn’t. They’d just

Fall.

Challenge
See if you can write the shortest and most bizarre story possible featuring these prompts: a dinosaur, a magic bathtub, a foam finger, and Morgan Freeman. Good luck!
andrethegiant in Flash Fiction

I have a weird kid

I just saw my kid playing in the bathtub. He was making a dinosaur eat a foam finger all the while narrating in his best Morgan Freeman voice, saying, "I don't care if you're an herbivore. Eat that hand!"

Challenge
Attempt to write a piece where every third word rhymes. Sense-making sentences are more impressive, but agreeable amounts of nonsense are also encouraged.
andrethegiant in Poetry & Free Verse

Third Word Rhymes

The day began with a flan and a can of German marzipan. Then a man from southern Japan brought his caravan back from Afghanistan with a plan to marry Diane. But she ran into a span of fake tan trouble. Rather than marry a crayon color, he began a new plan to see Uzbekistan, maybe see an exotic abominable snowman.

Challenge
Write automatically and describe who you really are, without referencing your physical appearance, job, traits, ethics, possessions, achievements, beliefs or environment. And good luck with that ;)

IBU

Beer experts produce a number for each beer called IBU - international bittering units. Most beers are in the 10-30 range. If you ever have a semi-decent IPA it will get into the 60s or higher. Some experts say that if the IBU gets above 87 or so you can't taste the difference anymore. 87 will taste just as bitter as 95 or 110. I once had a beer with an IBU of 120. I'm the 120 IBU beer.

Challenge
Write a short story with only five sentences, and each sentence must have only five words.
Five total sentences. Five words per sentence. 25 words total.
andrethegiant in Fiction

Alexa Allen

She drank whisky or wine. She preferred Speyside and Sangiovese. Alliteration always allured Alexa Allen. Aaron wasn't perfect, but close. At least he completed her.
