gravity.
we once fell through glass skies
only to climb back up, we once
wanted to reach forever, we once
loved without apology.
but what is it to love, we asked
ourselves; what is it to give freely
without reward, what is it to
make the wrong turn & keep driving.
we once reached the edge
of the earth and stopped. we could
almost feel its weight, that damning pull,
that tireless and unrelenting force.
but what is it to fly without wings, we asked
ourselves; what is it to reach for the stars
if this universe is made up of nothing but
eons and eons of darkness. and so eventually
we returned. we once feared gravity
until we discovered it was only earth’s way
of saying “I need you”, always pulling us
back down, begging us to stay.
we have learned so much from it
and can no longer condemn it;
it has given us love
and we cannot ask for anything more.
Who says...
You are Not
the most important
Thing...
You're Not
Everything or any
Thing...
reduced from
Some one
block
...to
Nothing:
squeezed
into a pair
of socks...
some where
...a last one
understanding
Nothing... is as
permanent
as Never...
and you'll need
to care just enough
to let loose the anvil
tied to boot...
that keeps us
from hearing
the rhythm
and blues;
the T...
that favors
you as an
Entity
free to be
not what
but Who

KALEIDOSCOPE
Kaleidoscope
placed right before you
image shifting
changing back
and forth
as light passes through
Kaleidoscope
what an invention
a process of~ hmm-
multiple reflection.
kaleidoscope
but I may need to
actually get it and
use it soon, right?
maybe someday &
that might be sweet
or maybe not
uh.

IN WHICH A GIRL OFFENDS THE HEAVENS
***
I fed the sky a nightmare and it spat it back at me. / I sang us both a lullaby that cursed the whole city. / I prayed the rosary and its cross cut me to the bone. / I reached my hands up high but only caught a falling stone. / I ventured a confession; no one cared to hear my plight. / I left the church and sacrificed my spirit to the night.

Pain
It makes and it breaks
It builds you up
And it tears you down
It lets you speak
And then takes away your voice
It supposedly makes you better
By taking you down to rock bottom
By chaining you up in the cell of your own mind
Making you watch as it crashes against your fragile heart
over and over again.
Leaving cracks and holes in what used to be a perfectly good heart.
People say that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger,
But in reality, whatever doesn't kill you leaves you broken,
Drowning in your own tears,
Writhing in your agony,
Your torture,
Your pain,
And it hurts so bad,
Being so alone and broken
That's what life does to you
This awful thing called Pain.
Mirrors
Yesterday's mirrors glare and accuse
Black char and blood tears
Fetid air, dead trees
Crows feast upon the dying
Frightened eyes torn from skulls
Broken taps dripping rust
Inner rooms smell of must
Bathed in fear, coated in guilt
Heavy, ugly, putrid
Breaking glass exploding
Festering walls imploding
Shattering mirrors now
Shards, dirt, blood, tears
Entrapment breaking clumsily
Hurting, aching, crying
Shuffling, hesitating, doubting
Baby steps
Falling down, getting up
Ginger hope
Tender caution
Static
It flits through
the breathless city
flickering- static-
an undertone-
the hum of
lifelessness
Sound comes
and goes easily
filtered into
meaningless noise
but it knows
what music is
It vibrates with
the idea of emotions
reaching out into
thin air
touching nothing
and everyone
Maybe it’s sad
or doesn’t know
the life it’s missing
but more likely
it knows exactly
how much it doesn’t

Fish of the Sea
Fish of the sea
Swim in huge droves,
Gathering and wandering
In their coral groves,
Meeting and mating
Together in alcoves;
Fish of the sea
Swim in great droves.
Fish of the sea
Swim around solo,
Lonely and adrift
Company they forgo,
Hunting and wandering
Avoiding the main flow;
Fish of the sea
Swim below solo.
Fish of the sea
Hide in their corals,
Creeping and whispering
They have fewer morals,
Ducking and dashing
Winning no laurels;
Fish of the sea
Hide in dark corals.
Fish of the sea
Hide behind beasts,
Following and trailing
They feed off their feasts,
Swimming behind others
Doing the least;
Fish of the sea
Hide behind beasts.
Fish of the sea
Do all the work,
Speeding and paddling
While others lurk,
Feeding their home
No duties they shirk;
Fish of the sea
Do the most work.
Fish of the sea
Do many great things,
Outlasting the best
Some even grow wings,
Out-smarting the hook
That dances and swings;
Fish of the sea
Do many good things.
Fish of the sea
Aren't perfect at their best,
Flipping and splashing
Not passing every test,
Becoming a meal
In the big beast's chest;
Fish of the sea
Aren't perfect, or best.
Fish of the sea
Aren't fish in this case,
Living and loving
Losing every race,
Laughing and crying
But always giving chase;
Fish of the sea
Are us in this case.
