Hello all you gifted word ninjas! Lets take a moment to honor an artist from the past. Take your favorite piece from any artist who is no longer among us, something perhaps that was significant in your life. Could be a poet, songwriter, something amazing! Be sure to state The writer, musician etc. I'm looking forward to reading some art that meant something to my fellow Prosers :) Have a great day...Deadman out

A Magic Moment I Remember (Alexander Pushkin)

A magic moment I remember:

I raised my eyes, and you were there,

a fleeting vision, the quintessence

of all that's beautiful and rare.

I pray to mute despair and anguish,

to vain the pursuits world esteems,

long did I hear your soothing accents,

long did your features haunt my dreams.

Time passed. A rebel storm blast scattered

the reveries that once were mine,

and I forgot your soothing accents,

your features gracefully divine.

In dark days of enforced retirement

I gazed upon grey skies above

with no ideals to inspire me,

no one to cry for, live for, love.

Then came a moment of reinessance,

I looked up - you again are there

a fleeting vision, the quintessence

of all that's beautiful and rare.

Natural Progression (1st Attempt @ Flash Fiction)

I woke up this morning and was no longer afraid. That little nagging sensation that turns into a voice constantly saying, “You’re going to lose,” was completely devoid of purpose and reason. People of a certain nature tend to compromise much of their life for others, but that isn’t today. Today is a selfish day, a progressive day, a mental health day, and everything else falls to the wayside.

“What the hell are you doing?” my husband asks as he sees the applications on the table.

“I’m taking care of me for a change,” I respond point blank. “I’m tired of watching others get ahead, and I’m still stuck in the same position.”

Stuck really isn’t the right word is it? I believe stagnant is more appropriate. He then does his duty, supporting me like a good husband should though he is reluctant to take of the responsibility of more debt.

It is quite progressive and trusting on his part, being 1965 and all. Progressiveness makes for interesting judgments, looks, and conversations. I now tell him I love him every day as our family, our marriage, and our lives are no longer stagnant and full of the fear of failure.

Challenge
Write about being alone.

Being Alone

There is a sense of security when you find yourself alone,

when there is no-one present and your shadow’s your clone.

It’s peaceful to think of yourself as whole

when no-one decides to dissect your soul.

Lessons are taught by the self when alone

which proves the self pliable and not made of stone.

In such lessons people live and grow

as they reflect on the paths they and no-one else chose.

Personal evolution is something to enjoy,

and in doing this, alone time is needed to deploy.

Challenge
Go outside (yes, OUTSIDE) and find yourself a piece of nature, living or otherwise. Use unusual language and comparisons to make a memorable point.

Wholehearted

At first contact, our eyes spoke for us.

The room was filled with its own machinations.

We observed on the balcony the creation of dusk

while others performed their own casual flirtations.

Our first conversation was that of legend.

Not quite that of a generational love song,

but it was enough to alter our hearts’ dimensions,

paving the highway of a connection seeming strong.

Fast forward the show to some point in the future

where such conversations no longer exist.

One too many shouts and door slams became our tutors,

but miscommunications should have been something to resist.

It is a rite of passage to grieve, perhaps even a perfected art

to learn there is nothing so whole as that of a broken heart.

Challenge
Haiku!... Gesundheit. Write a haiku eulogizing a deceased pet goldfish. Poor little fishy.
