Do Not Speak

I spent a whole afternoon

Roaming about the library

Just to catch a glimpse

Of your beautiful face engrossed in some book.

Oh, how I wanted to tell you how I feel

Right there and then

Yet I waited.

I followed you around the next day too

Hoping this time you'd notice me

How I'd introduce myself

Coyly pass off a compliment or two

About your smile.

But alas, you seemed to like the novel more than reality

And so I waited.

It was raining the first time we met

You hadn't come

Disappointed, I went inside

To pass the time and read what you were reading

But as I sat down, you came too

And sat beside me; your eyes sparkling

Reminiscing

As they noticed the book in my hands.

And though the 'Do Not Speak' sign hung prominently behind you

Our shared silence was certainly louder than any words.

Life

"Every human heartbeat is a universe of possibilities."

As I watch the sun rise

And effortlessly paint the endless sky

While the blackness of the night is swallowed by the horizon

I can't help but wonder

This is what life is meant to be.

When I stand under the rain drops

The cold winds numbing my body

Making me forget my wounds and my scars

I can't help but wonder

This is what life is meant to be.

Everytime I look at you

Laughing with your mouth wide open

Making the world brighter one smile at a time

I can't help but wonder

You're what life is meant to be.

Ghosts

I see them everywhere I look

Ghosts of people

People I've loved

People I've lost

People I've become

Hell, even people I wish I could be

For every decision I make,

Two new ghosts emerge

Something I would've been had I done more wrong instead of right

Or right instead of wrong

All these ghosts define me

My past, my present, my future

That is why I know I'll never be myself

I can't be myself

I will always only be a ghost

Afraid of coming into the light.

Love

Have I ever been in love?

Possibly.

I have been in love with the sky for as long as I can remember

With the clouds traversing its surface

Changing shapes

And colors

To

Echo

My

Mood.

I have been in love with the great oak in my backyard

With its golden bark and leaves that fall in autumn,

Green and red and yellow and brown

And all the gradients of the spectrum

My

Very own

Rainbow.

I fall in love with the Sun

When it rises, everyday,

Turning the heavens crimson

And when it sets

Ruining them dull

Daily

Routinely

Just like me.

But have I ever been in love with a person?

Never.

For they rarely change colors or forms

Seldom cause downpours or storms

Never shed themselves - not to even grow.

And I cannot love stagnation, you should know.

Darkness

"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present." - Francis Bacon

When I was a child, I was afraid of the dark;

For the dark was an epitome of everything unbeknownst to me,

And I feared what I did not know.

When my small fingers found their way to the light switch

And the shadows were eliminated in brightness

Is when I felt relief, for then I recognized everything - I was at home.

Now that I've grown up,

I'm no longer scared of the darkness.

Not because I know everything now,

But because I've learnt to be afraid of what I already do.

Tomorrow

I'll rise tomorrow

When the sun is out and the world is up

When the wind does sway and the birds do chirp

That is when I'll rise:

I'll rise tomorrow

Today may be lost

And broken and gone

Success may have eluded me

And I may not have won

But Life has a memory so slight

And I will have a clean slate after this night

That is when I'll rise:

I'll rise tomorrow

So remember this, then,

That I will not stop

No matter the times

It takes to reach the top

For there will always be a Today, and an opportunity I failed

And always a Yesterday away from me that sailed

But for every Now, there will be an After

And the abundance of Tomorrows is infinitely larger

That is when I'll rise:

I'll rise tomorrow.
