I took a long shaky breath and pulled the trigger. There was no scream or final plea for help, just the thud of his body hitting the cement floor. At first I was paralyzed wih fear and utter disbelief. But, slowly a thought revealed itself to me. Objectively, I had killed this man, but he was condemned for this fate, considering the destruction he had inflicted days prior. But there was no justifying this immoral act- this defiant nature overtaking me. It was not only his life that had been sacrificed that day, but mine too.
