Roses.

roses are red

and violets are blue

and no one ever means it

when they say, “i love you”

because people we love, never love us too

& with the promises they make,

they never follow through

and they leave us wishing, them, we never knew

leaving us wondering if there’s something we could do

to make them come back, and make them love us too

but they never do, and after you;

roses are no longer red

but a lighter, washed-out hue

and violets match my heart, cold, worn and blue

roses are red

violets are blue

and i now hate them both

because they remind me of you
