Shake

It shook the pillars of our dorm;

my roommate said his teeth even rattled in his skull.

Students from the surrounding area gathered in the quad.

This is one of the few episodes I remember from those days;

A girl with a homemade sweater stroking it for calm;

Two brothers singing an a Capella duet the birds might envy;

A crowd of athletes playing tag in the rapidly fading dusk.

I tried to visualize what this memory would look like ten years hence.

The smell of fear is thick, but once the cloud subsides, flying's easy.
