Still Cold in April

Wiping snow off the car windshield

In mid April

Deleting phone numbers from

Last December

When cold as wire cutters

I cut off ties

I’m tired of this winter

And the bitter wind

With it’s frigid white claws

Dragging me back

Into that black hole of hibernation

Within my ugly white apartment

Where once an invalid lived

And died somewhere along the way

His ghost refuses to vacate

Phantom limbs crossed stubbornly

Like a storm cloud heavy with snow

While summer hovers like a halo

Just above the mountains

Sunlight peeks through the windows

Tapping gently with a warm smile

Bringing me flowers

And flowing gently through my hair
