She couldn’t close her eyes

She couldn’t close her eyes, without seeing his face;

without smelling his cologne, or remembering that disgusting vodka taste.

She couldn’t close her eyes, without flashbacks of it all;

night terrors and day terrors were all her eyes now saw-

Tonic immobility took over her soul,

As she lie there helpless, having not a bit of control.

She couldn’t close her eyes then, she can’t close her eyes now;

She can’t unsee what happened-

will she ever learn how?
