big bang

You're all the colors

in the sky,

but

even sunsets go out

with a big bang

before leaving you

in the dark.

Grave

I often visit the graves

of the people I used to be.

It doesn't help

when he reminds me constantly

of who I was previously.

My body count was two.

I was clumsy this time around,

slipped the knife on you.

You lie there underground,

your soul is colder now.

I can't raise you from the dead,

they'll say I'm messing with your head.

I swear, it wasn't my intention

to keep you from a chance at redemption.

You can pull through the dirt,

you can push through the hurt,

let your bleeding hands rise above the Earth.

Get up in your feet

and dust off the defeat.

Be a better person than me.

A grave with two headstones,

your name written in bold.

I'm the person your ghost

will forever call home.

Letter I Never Sent #9

I was running through the rain the other day with your letter in my hand. Each drop of water reminded me of your touch. Soft, delicate and the impact sent adrenaline through my body. Lightning resembled the spark between us. Thunder was the connection we shared, hidden but heard my many. The sound of it all soothed me like your voice always did. By the time I reached my car I sat there soaking wet. Your letter was covered in kisses from the rain.

The ink smeared.

Not like it mattered anyway. All we ever said to each other were smudges of what we actually wanted to say. Maybe you won't be able to read it completely, the same way we struggle with reading one another. Piecing the readable parts together might help my message come across. Yet, if you lose your patience you'll never figure out what I've been trying to tell you. Should there be a delay with the arrival of this letter, please, bare with me as the storm passes.

Sincerely,

Anonymous Jennie

Exist

There's beauty

in the way

you exist.

Challenge
I'm posting this at midnight. Write a poem about your late nights, your aches, your laughs, your last thoughts before sleep, your dreams. Write about the way you feel, especially if right now is a late night.

you’re one of them

Eleven o'clock

on the dot.

They're taking over

my thoughts.

It's growing quiet

outside.

It's growing loud

in my mind.

I'm screaming

on paper.

I'm dreaming

wide awake.

It's that time

of the night,

when my demons

come out to play.

words like constellations

Your words like constellations

turned into stardust.

They lingered

through the galaxy

that is my mind.

Your touch like moonbeams

lit me up inside.

Felt bright like the stars

but even they die.

To my misfortune,

I was merely a satellite

revolving through space.

You were a meteoroid

headed my way.

We collided.

We shattered.

That was our fate.

Damn the black hole

that devoured our pieces.

Left no trace,

we've been completely erased.
