How many forms can one person take before they lose their selfhood? Your mouth spits out these acronyms relevant to a generation subsequent to yours. You're salt and pepper hair is shoe polish black. You're Brillo-like beard has disappeared revealing skin that hasn't been graced with the rays of the sun in years.

Dreamcatcher

There are no comparisons to be made. No candles to be held.

A climber of mountains. A true wanderer.

A chaser of dreams with an iron will. You can find her by the glow of a campfire with a song on her lips and flowers in her hair.  A smile so bright and inviting  pulling you into a world of comfort and warmth. All the while holding the world in her hands with an air of modesty that is exceedingly endearing.

Jump

Our pledge is sealed and I feel an exhilaration that courses through every pore.

Edging forward, our toes just touch the crag as the wind pushes against our bodies.

I'm shaking with fear, my legs feel detached as if all my blood has somehow gone.

I look to you, your face mirrors mine.

Yet slowly begins to soften.

I'm not alone.

We have each other.

I fill my lungs, my chest filled with doubt, but I take the plunge as promised. Without warning your hand detaches in desperation.

Falling fast, as the earth spins violently round and round. Brilliant colors turn to darkness.

In these last moments I've never felt so lost and alone.

Catch Me If You Can

I know you sense my presence without receiving acknowledgment.

I call out to you, but you're in a world of your own.

A smoke screen of envy exists only to you.

Are you afraid to connect?

So much preoccupation in counting your medallions of fortune.

Siphoning the energy from a crowd as if it were second nature.

There's simply no time to lend your reach to another if there's no offer to be made.

Pay the toll and leave her be.

The night is young, and her hunger is insatiable.

The Trio

Just because he's yours doesn't mean I want him.

Coveting the insecure is not in my repertoire.

Paranoia has planted its roots so deep within you making you harsh and distant.

Fear has washed your eyes over, perverting the reality staring you in the face. Keep pushing, and prodding and before you know it, we'll both be gone.

How terrible it will feel to be so right, and so very wrong.

What Comes Next

I am the sadness in your eyes

That lingers long or passes by.

When you stop to wonder why,

No answers will be found.

I am the light that you may find

That good fortune and renewal binds

An outward hand gentle and kind.

In the knick of time or tardily.

Never knowing what's ahead

A sigh of bliss or encroaching dread,

Hanging on to what's been said

No comfort to be found.

A Trail to You

Straight, crooked, what does it matter?

We all make our own choices. Take the good along with the bad. No matter the consequence, you've scattered your trail of bread crumbs. A jagged line that leads me straight back to you.

sunny day

"Open your eyes sleepy head! Rejoice, it's a new day!"

I hear the morning alarm go off,and I pretend I didnt . I'm nowhere close to ready to face the day.

It's 6AM and I lack the ability to see the beauty and wonder in the world around me. Hell, I dont even try. Birds chirp as we make our way out of the door. The brisk air chills me momentarily then awakens me ever so slightly.

"Breathe in that fresh air!" "Look how bright the sun is and the sky is so blue!" I get into the car and pull my sweatshirt over my head while gulping down a large coffee. Trying to surpress my anger. It's far too early for this crap.

Cognitive Impairment

I can't finish a single thought. Everything is a dead end in this fog.

I try and write.

Try to suppress the need to have some well-crafted piece pour from my fingertips onto the page.

Instead I have four fragmented ideas I'd like to do away with completely.
