Challenge
what is our purpose?
Profile avatar image for newnamewhodis
newnamewhodis

You decide

Forget fate, forget destiny, decide your own purpose. Don't like your purpose? Change it. What you do is your choice. Noone should be able to decide your purpose without your consent. Someone may decide for you and you may not have a choice in the matter. Doesn't make it right though. My purpose is mine. And your purpose is yours. And if you don't know your purpose yet then that's ok too. Some people can live their whole lives without one and that's just fine too. But in the end your purpose, if you have the choice, is whatever you decide it to be.

Water

Water is patient. It wears slowly at the land. Consuming it bit by bit. It engulfs the air. It extinguishes fire. Water can change it's form, be it rising as steam when it heats or further up in the sky as a cloud. Or harder than that, colder, as ice. Water can take many shapes and many forms. Water is old. Water is life. From the water we crawled out and one day the water will reclaim us all.

Challenge
Villain or Hero? Why?
Profile avatar image for newnamewhodis

None

To be a hero or to a villian is to shackle oneself to an ideal. Both of them are trapped. Trapped in expectation. Some one might say that a villian does whatever he/she wants but do they...

Or is the villian limited in what he/she can do to out of the bounds of his/her terrian. All others scorn and fear the villian and fear is powerful. Yes it grants the villian power over the masses but also destroys the chance of good in them.

A hero is no less trapped. Trapped by their own principles. By what a 'hero' must act like.

No I say be none. Don't hide your decisions by labelling them the actions of a hero or a villian. They are your decisions. Own up to them. Let them be yours.

Should Batman kill the Joker?
Your thoughts.

newnamewhodis in Stream of Consciousness

Yes

Batman's play at a moral high ground is nice and all but in the end if he has the choice to finally end the Joker and refuses to do so constantly, then does that make Batman an accessory to murder especially since he knows that Joker will escape and will kill again. This is not the case of him killing a suspect or someone just plain sane but rather killing a straight up psychopath who, as the plot demands, will never change. This is not the real world and the Joker is not a man who made a mistake and may in time come to repent. The Joker knows exactly what he is doing and loves it too much to ever stop doing it. The only true way to end the Joker's reign of terror is to end the Joker himself.

Star Wars vs Star Trek
Which is the better franchise?

The answer is obvious

It's over Star Trek!

We have the high ground!

You underestimate our power

Don't try it!

(Star Trek tries it, however due to lack of the force, burns in lava with no hope.)

A Choice

He was there again. And with him that strange ache in her chest. Always it came, without failure, these days even the mere mention of him brought it forth. She began to wonder what he felt when he saw her but quickly pushed that thought aside. Such things must never cross her mind; lest others sense a weakness in her. Because that’s what it was; a weakness. But there were times that she almost couldn’t bring herself to care.

He was her opposite. Soft when she was hard. Warm when she was cold. And yet it seemed that they were more alike than you would see at first glance. Both were outcasts in their own way.

He was beautiful. Not handsome as men are handsome but rather beautiful as princess in a child’s bedtime story. Too beautiful. Women looked upon him in envy rather than lust and even some men who preferred men would not look at him for he was too feminine by half. He dressed in silks and sang before the court, such was his role.

She had some beauty but it would have been better if she had none. She was a soldier, nothing more. Her skills with the sword earned her her place but did nothing for the mockery. Both the court and her brothers-at-arms alike scorned her, for why should a beautiful woman serve in armor rather than serve her husband. So she closed herself off; became cold and hard. If she showed no weakness then they could not find a way to hurt her.

Then the court received a new singer. And the hardness began to crack.

So here she was again. With this absurd ache in her chest and a weakness garbed in silk preparing to sing. She was torn. Her mind wanted to get rid of this threat to her. Her heart rebelled against this and wanted to hide him and keep him safe from the world.

As he began to sing she stood there, heart and mind at war. Waiting to see what would win and which choice she would have to make.

Vengeance

Father Andrew always said that all can be forgiven; for forgiveness is divine. He was wrong, somethings you cannot forgive and I will not forgive. I will have my vengeance; maybe not tomorrow, maybe not for years, but I will have it.

Your Duty

Stay quite

Make not a sound

Speak only when spoken to

And then only in whispers

You are a woman

A woman must have no voice

Save when her husband wills it

And soon he will be your husband

And then you shall do your duty

You will not enjoy it but he will

And in the end you shall fufill your purpose

And bear him sons

Birth daughters if you must

But sons he must have

If you do not he will put you aside

And take another to bride

If you are lucky he will put you to the axe

If not you shall live on the streets as a disgraced woman

For I will not allow you bring shame upon my halls

Now go forth daughter and wed this Lord

And remember to keep your silence

And do your duty

Challenge
you.
I love the second person point of view because it is so universal: it could be anyone; it could even be ourselves. My challenge for you: write a piece of poetry or prose so ambiguous that the "you" could apply to anyone, everyone, or no one at all.

To whom ever is reading this

Hi

You don't know me and I don't know you but at this moment in time we can both agree on one thing; you are reading this.

Or maybe you're not. Maybe somebody is reading this outloud and you'd really like them to shut up already.

But let's say you are reading this...why?

Are you trying to judge the people in this challenge?

Or are you looking for something that resonates with you?

I can't answer that.

Because I don't know you.

But in this moment in time I'd just like to say this:

Hi and nice to meet you.
