Ashes in the sand

and blood upon the water

sunlight shining in my mind

moonlight screams unto the slaughter

I glance into the mirror 

into the victims eyes

she fakes another smile

tears welling in her eyes

I hate that she is weak

I hate she refuses to fight

I hated her this morning

as i'll hate her more tonight

The fire's embers shift

their glow slowly fades

the warmth drifts to cold

as happiness dies away

I sit the lowly butterfly

Haunted by caterpillar dreams

wings faded and frayed in the breeze

I cry to the moonlight

I weep to the rains

Even my dreams leave me

Flightless, alone, dying
