Mom Guilt

There is

Not much

Woman

In me

After being

Mother

All day.

Do not misunderstand,

I love it,

Being mother.

Only

There are moments

I miss her,

The woman.

Who lived

And thought

Freely.

Whose life

Was not tethered

To another's

Heartbeat.

Friend Of A Friend

Picture it,

June 2012

A girl experiences a trauma

Her phone explodes

With more "I'm sorry's"

Than she can count

And one

"You dont now me, but..."

That would hold the sharp,

Shattered pieces

Of her

As she mourned

High school is hard enough

But they,

They sheltered her

With midnight mini van taco bell runs,

Texting and teamspeak,

Anime binges,

And 4 a.m. minecraft sessions.

Fast forward a decade

And then some.

Their bad,

Sometimes selfish teenage decisions

Transitioned

To deep adult conversations and consolations

Of shitty jobs and failed romances.

Its been a while

Since she saw them

Face to face.

It's okay, the space.

They're both busy now

With life, families, and tragedies.

But still make moments to

Check in, chat, or cry.

Whatever the other needs.

Average, Everyday God(s)

He, She, and They

Are not all mighty

There are no cloud-clad kingdoms

But pothole ridden streets

And one, maybe two bedroom apartments

Inside, a lived-in space

In need of cleaning or burning,

They don't know

Dirty dishes stacked high

Next to unanswered prayers

A load of hopes and dreams

Has a growing smell of mildew

Sitting another

In the washing machine

Why do towels take so long to dry?

Dust bunnies gather

Like sins, swept under the rug

Small

Unnoticed

Forgotten

A stew of

Good and bad karma

Sits, waiting

What they put in,

They must taste

Kindness simmers softly

While bitterness boils over

They long for balance

Unobtainable

They passively pour

A cup of coffee

And analyze the space

Overwhelmed

Southern Hospitality

Below the Mason-Dixon,

People pass pretend pleasantries

Over sweet iced tea

After Sunday church.

They smile at each other

In the grocery store,

Holding doors

Longer than necessary.

Out of habit or to be kind?

No one knows anymore.

The cicadas sing

Love songs for the sunners

And backhanded bastards beat

"Please, thank you, sir and ma'am"

Into us with sugar coated sarcasm

Bless your heart

Did you think those

Sweet southern someones

Were genuine?

Well, ain't you precious.

People Pleasing Plague

I give away my soul

Air from my lungs

Blood from my veins

And every time,

I die a little.

I am nothing but

A smiling slave in shining armor

Polished to perfection for your pleasure
