A Word Red

I identify like nothing else with these traces that have been left. Slit and stare, a history evokes itself from curtains of mystery that are there. Stamped. Close my eyes against the glare; It’s what I see everywhere! Red, as it pulses through these veins. It’s inked across the Heart with its contradiction; and has crossed the mind as a Conviction. A rejection. Lost, late, final notice: my Eviction. So much cut from the lines; and at the tape. So much said— ’n red. I’m not against it truly, not at all, but to be so raw, ripped-open and exposed in every flaw... is to have been bled... to have been read... and discarded by all.

Colors of Life

Yellow tells us of a coward,

edges away from becoming red.

Pink tells us of new-borns,

just shy of the brightest red.

Brown could be rust colored red,

Blue, is just blue,

but it could be a saddened heart,

beating red blood ever gently.

Orange is but a step away,

caught in the flames of fire red.

Velvet is the soft red,

ever close to coming forefront to red.

But red ... red is the master,

the power that turns heads,

that feels heat,

that causes faces to blush.

Red is everywhere,

from sandstone to brick,

to a sexy dress on a woman,

to embarrasing moments.

... and red,

is the moment of now.

Think it,

feel it,

breathe it.

Red Are My Wanted Lover’s Lips

What is in the structure of her lips,

That allows for such a delicate form?

Cupid’s bow never did so gently bend,

Nor blush as red

As did my lover’s lips.

What rare mineral

Allows for color

That makes the cherry shrink

And the fall rose wither

In hot jealousy?

And oh, what must I do

To exact from them

Those love-tipped arrows?

Those words that will strike my heart

And fill its hunger

For love and company?

Instead of the poisoned dart

That always flies from those lips

Whenever I am near

Commanding the worst of me.
