Take a stanza from your favorite poet/artist and then write your own stanza, and ask your readers to compare the two, explaining why they liked one over the other. Test your mettle against famous writers or artists, if you dare! Don't give away who the other author is, nor which stanza is your own! BTW, tag me so I can see and weigh in on your entries!

Compare These, Please

So, I was challenged to submit my work and match it against someone else's. One stanza is my own, and the other was written by someone else. The only thing I'm asking for is that you choose the stanza you like the most and tell me why. Thanks in advance! Brutal honesty, please!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stanza 1:

You had a lot of dreams that transform to visions,

The fact that you saw the world affected all your decisions,

But it wasn't your fault, wasn't in your intentions,

To be the one here talking to me, be the one listening,

But I admire your poppin' bottles and dipping,

Just as much as you admire bar-tending and stripping,

Baby, so don't be mad, nobody else tripping,

You see a lot of crooks and the crooks still crook,

You see you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart,

Never really had luck, couldn't never figure out,

How to love...

Stanza 2:

I see you got them dreams,

That look in your eye, the way that it gleams,

But the world's got traps, it's got games,

And you're not ever told the rules, the way that it's played.

The way that ya smile brings me up,

The sunshine of love, like a newborn pup,

You give me the hope and the courage

To fill up my cup.

But you gotta stick with it, there's no other way,

Tomorrow the grass will be greener,

It's another day.

Look to the future with them bright eyes,

It may not be smooth sailing, but there's always brighter skies.

Come with me and I'll shelter you during times of rain,

I'll hold your hand during the dark and the pain,

Show you all the things you've been deprived of,

Like how to love...

One of these stanzas is my own, written on the fly with the other stanza in mind when writing it. No monetary compensation is sought for either, and no money is being made off of any original or derivative work. This post is solely for entertainment and educational (my own) purposes.

Comparison

Stanza 1:

I come to church for the candy

Yo peppermints is the truth

I'm pessimistic on Mondays if I had tweaked and missed you.

You look so good with the hat on

Hadta match with the shoes

Got you covered in satin

I came and sat in ya pew.

I come to Christmas fa dinner

Fifty rolls on my plate

Hella holes in my stockings

Holdin ya pockets in place.

I like my love with a budget

I like my hugs with a scent.

You smell like light gas water electricity rent.

Looking like why the gospel choir got so tired.

Daily basis so I gotta face it had to try it.

You my dream team dream catcher team captain

Matta fact I ain't seen you in a minute

Gotta take my butt to church.!!!

Stanza 2

Don't come to church for the gospel

I go to church just for you.

I'on see you fa the week

Then I'on know what to do.

Hate to ask you for money

Hide the fact that I ain't got no mo shoes.

Cos every time I see you I'm feeling richer than jews

Like it don't matter what i got

I got you by my side

The devil demons can't come get me

When I got angels ta ride.

It's never no need

When i got you here to help

It ain't no heat in the house

And I can't get it myself

You make sure the lights they stay on

And the fridge it got stuff

Can come to ya house to sleep and eat

You always give me enough.

I go hungry so you can get ya toes done.

I wanna thank you for the blessings and that Christianly love.

It's been a minute since I seen you

Lemme take my butt to church.!!

Read both an let me know which you prefer. Give me reasons why you chose which one you did. This is actually a song not a poem.!!!! Comment comment comment.!!
