Breaking the Third Wall

Picture two people: an adult man and woman. He is down on one knee. He takes her hand and says,

"I can't live without you."

Now picture two other people: a teenage boy and his younger sister. He is lying on a hospital bed awaiting the transplant of the kidney she is going to be donating him. He takes her hand and says,

"I can't live without you."

When context alone can make the exact words feel a hundred feet taller, that is the two-dimensional page's way of breaking the third wall.

Interesting Question

3D words, if we're going to be literal, are simply the signs above the front doors of a building. The ones that the birds make their nests in.

3D words, if we're going to be philosophical, are words that are simply spoken. Because no matter what, our words have weight and can be more influential than water.
