how could we respire with chapped lips

I've never felt any of these

in a degree of consequence

always careful to clutch at

the lining of my pockets

whenever life threatens to

drift back towards sleep

retracing the bruises

ice on lukewarm skin

creates an illusion of fire

flames encasing your tenderness

white heat stings

the way your eyes do

in daylight after imprisonment

exhaustion imitating that of

too much sleep

surrendering to the feeling

of cotton tongue and

shaded sun, squinting through

hazes you anticipated

but never really remember

when you're in the thick of it

My dear, you’re no good for me.

You burn me with your own death's kiss;

poke and prod until I'm completely paralyzed and till there's nothing left to give but up. Succumbed to your rueful touch and left feeling used and mistrusted.

When I evaporate I won't be missed.

You've hollowed out my eyes;

all I see is darkness and your baby blues;

you repair what's been broken in hopes to make you some hero who brings me to the light but I know you're not some blinding knight and that all of your bittersweet words are lies.

You're one mistake I won't make again;

you've made me sick and quite frankly I wouldn't miss you at all but I know that's another resolution doomed to fall.

Even though I regret you every morning I love your company all the while and I'll defend your benefits until the very end.
