My Reckless Paradise

the sun shines

softly sending

butterfly kisses

upon my smooth skin

the wind

rushes through my hair

and i let it ravage wildly

without a care.

this

tender harshness

of warm breeze

makes it feel

like the world is there

enveloping me

on this journey.

and

im

happy.

one hand on the wheel

my foot pressing on the gas

going fast with impulsive

passion.

windows rolled down

music blasted high

unafraid of what people think

of my punk pop music.

and

im

happy.

sunglasses

shading the world

in pink

seeing life

from a new perspective.

body swaying

rigorously

but i will never

run

out

of

breath.

(for i will keep breathing in this reckless paradise)

and

im

happy

because

i

am

living

now.

Hygge

Orange-peel fragrance drifts

mingling with wood floors sunwarm

light floats through rose petals

A quick note for those unfamiliar: Hygge (pronounced hoo-guh) is a Danish/Norewegian word meaning "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture)".

vase

i draped my wrist over the white vase

my veins slit open and with that blood

i watered the flowers until they withered

one by one yet the perfume never goes away

My Happiness

In a world filled with so many perils

It's good to sit down and reflect a bit.

To think about the tiny things-the cardinal I saw eat from the feeder

I take a glimpse of the clear blue sky

And I feel as if I could fly

My spirits are high as I turn to admire the horse trollop down the street

And then that curly headed child says aloud:

I love you so much.

This brings to mind what is best.

The things that make me happiest-

Not things and games and toys for humans

But life and breath and Earth's beauty in creation.

Words on paper

Writing letters is a lost art.

Its time consuming,

not effortless,

takes some money too.

Take out paper,

pen, and envelope

and don’t forget the stamp!

Write about your day

your life,

your pets,

your family.

Fold it up and seal it off.

Now remembering their address...

Put it in the mailbox,

and now all you do is wait

...and wait

...and wait

...and wait

Received five days later,

but you don’t know that yet.

You have to wait another five days

for their response to come.

But it’s worth it.

Worth it because:

each time I get a letter,

I smile

and laugh.

My heart is in my throat.

It feels so good

for someone

to have spent that time on

me.

I’m immediately

excited

to open it

and read it.

To look at

their handwriting

that’s personal

and special,

unique to every person.

I never wait to open them.

They’re too exciting to save.

Words in letters

hold so much care.

They are deliberate

and decided.

Each time I get a letter,

I think

this is so much better...

than some message on my phone.

Because,

words

on paper

are more deliberate

and purposeful.

They hold a greater weight.

So,

I send letters

just to give people those

small moments

of pure happiness

that make

a person’s

day

and give them a

smile

that I passed their way.
