Chapter l.

″ I can’t believe I fell flat on my face,” I told Yara. ” I mean I was so close.”

We walked past the green trees of the community park. Which I now saw so far away.

I pulled the special identity card saying that my father worked for the Nazis.

I showed it to the guard on the post. He stood as if he had a metal rod on his back. His brown hair was slicked back and shaved on the side, the usual nazi hairstyle. He gave a curt nod as he opened the door, and almost immediately shut it again with a slam.

I shoved in the identity card in and took out my rumpled gray coat. The yellow star shone to awkwardly. The wind blew on my face. " Yara how was school?" She mumbled "Fine." I looked at her there was something different about her appearance. I scanned her head to toe. Then I saw something very unusual. She was wearing a knitted hat. Yara hated knitted hats. She always complained that it was too itchy. " Yara why are you wearing that hat?" " Cause I'm cold." I knew something was wrong.

I gently lifted the hat, she flinched her face screwed. Then I saw it. There was a huge gash going through her head. It was deep red, the outside purple. The skin around the area was going yellow because of the lack of medical care. "Yara we need to get you home," I said firmly. She nodded. My poor sister, I wanted to know what happened but her safety was more important.
