I Write When I Can't Sleep
A book of poems written when sleep escaped me but words clung to my mind, poems of everything a tired youth could imagine and write down. They are all over the place, mysterious, a little weird and just maybe worth reading.

First Night...

Eyes, Sleep and a Heart

You can’t wake up ’till you’ve fallen asleep.

You can’t open your eyes ’till they’re closed.

You can’t love without a heart,

And where you get get one nobody knows...

Death

Brittle, frail, crumbling,

life is fragile.

Yet, it’s allure and spell enchant the world,

bewitching even the firmest conviction in logic.

Captivating and enthralling,

life is only outdone by death...

To The Future

Surge forward,

run onward.

Rise and rush into every trouble,

taking it head on.

Nobody needs to listen to well-wishing caution;

not when adventure is so close at hand...

Wishing

If only sleep came as easy as closing your eyes.

If only walking was as effortless as putting one foot before the other.

If only believing was as simple as breathing.

If only the darkness wasn’t so abundant...

Second Night...

Rain

Why does rain have to mean sadness?

The same rain that makes the clouds gray washes away the pain.

To me rain is life.

Rain is rising from the ashes.

Rain is having the strength to start again...

The Light Will Shine

Shadows aren’t eternal, they fade.

Darkness can’t last forever, the sun will rise.

The morning will come.

The silence will be broken.

The night will end...

Secrets?

Crying alone,

why am I always crying alone?

Why do I hide the pain,

the pain inside?

My sorrows, tears, sins and fears,

are seen only by the unseen,

the silent watchers in high places...

Many Days

Tomorrow will never come,

and today is always here.

Yesterday? Well that’s never to be touched again.
