Morning Quandaries

“Hello Athene”

And there she was laying in my bed her olive dark skin rumpling the shimmery green sheets.

Another body comes back from those that refused to stay away.

“Oadie did you have a good night?” I blinked at her.

She stretched luxuriating in the morning light that made her black hair look blue against the dark sheets. They clung to her tracing the outline of her form. The air stirred, she’d looked better when I saw her last departing on the ferry. She, having paid old Kharon well to set her up in her new life across the bay.

“How about we just lay in bed for a bit longer?” She asked.

But I was already rising not bothering to gather the bronze bedclothes to me as they flowed off like water.

I walked to the kitchen that was in the same room as the bed. It was a small flat the only separate room being the bathroom, but it was high up. I picked up a pomegranate wanting something to steal away the taste of ash and myrrh from my mouth. Tearing it raggedly in half juice from ruptured seeds dripped past my fingers and a drop or two accidentally fell to my breast staining it. I wrinkled my brow but held the other half out to her as she watched me from across the room.

Her nose looked a bit dusty as she wrinkled it. “Oh, my dearest you must be aware that I know better than to eat those things. I told you last time I swore them off, no more adventures for me.”

My shoulders sagged a bit but then I shrugged biting into my half, the juices running down my narrow chin onto the grey of the counter.

Another, alter not crossed. Eventually one of them had to, otherwise, why did they keep showing up when I woke? I asked myself.

I sighed as the flavor of the fruit washed away the evening before. “You need to stop coming here Oadie, it isn’t healthy for either of us.”

She laughed lightly, less of her showing and more sunlight showing through her by the minute.

“Then you need to stop drunk dialing me my dearest Athene, the trips are long and it’s not that easy on me.”

And with that, she faded and all that was left was a tangle of emerald sheets and bronze bedclothes.

I thought back to the night before and specifically remembered not dialing anyone drunk or no. They just kept showing up in my bed in the mornings. I remembered my nights and days perfectly in fact. I belatedly tried to remember my dreams, my longing lived there.

Nothing! Damn! so that was it. There was nothing I could do about it till someone excepted.

I absently drummed manicured fingers on the counter through minute puddles of spilled juice. “Now what?” I asked, but there was of course no answer.

Oh It Was Once Called Home

There was a little thing that sat in our house

It mostly was ignored though it tooted quietly from time to time

Most ignored it,

The mules in house brayed as they talked and bantered in congress

The little trunked beast yowled of its colors

Of Red Blue and White

The mules so similarly bedecked scoffed for so colored were they

Oh the white oak and dogwood sheltered them all in the house

But in its roots nestled the fox

The fox tired of roots as a bower hatched a plan

Into the house, it would sneak and feed little long-nosed beast

Day in day out the fox did just that and as it did the beast grew

All of the house ignored what was in the room though it got bigger and bigger

MY COLORS MY COLORS! The beast would call for that was all it could say

Ignored as it was it wrecked the house

Too big it blocked said Mules from banter and congress

The fox now prowled the house freely speaking for ignored pachyderm

HIS COLORS! He would cry though now

Black Red and Gold it shoved in all the mule’s aside

Too big now for the house

Now no animal except the fox could move

So it claimed the house as its own

Worlds pillars shaken

Thee damned election rears neigh

Bigoted or Liar

Fire or Ice holds world in sway

Can voices be heard

In maelstrom disgust and hate

Chosen souls we shrive
