Saturday on Sherman Avenue

Burnt wood and a body on the ground.

The palette between black and white.

Milwaukee's dark tonight.

Pacific

Sands retreat through pale

Unshaven feet sift small stones

These peace waters don't handle me

And the waves keep coming back

I tend my mind in tides

To move toward roars that end in lulls

To arrive at sinner's peace

Mother, she's a wave from me

I called her on your dime

The lines are coming faster now

The gulls are close behind

But the waves keep coming back

I'm layered underneath

Cradle me in your arms once more

Excuse my cloudy reach

You May Not Know

Your mouth may outrun the daylight

Your volume might floor its ceiling

But when I etch a crack into my silence

The earth sits down;

Heads pivot

To draw from my silent secrecy unfolded.

Ridden with your aftershocks

Oilyprunedtiptoes sever the

Surface, rippled reveries sink to

Erase the ocean floor we built.

Lost Cremation

Trapped beneath pyre coals, a deserted cicada turns to wax.
