She tells me a secret

it festers in my ear

my mouth wants to apprise it

But it’s not mine to say

tossing and turning

I think of it night and day

It whispers to me

“just me set me free”

like a fool I listen

so it runs free

Through talking tongues

and eager listeners

I watch it spread

tears fill my eyes

Two big yellow blinking eyes

Daring me to race ahead

To beat it

At its own game

Then one red one appears

Angry that I should dare

I screech to a halt

We stare at each other

Till it is pleased

And it lightly turns green

This is the fight

With the traffic light
