24th Hunger Games

The slip in her hands meant my life. My sister's life. Everyone's lives.

District 12 stared at Rosa Trinket's smiling face.

"Thalia Cresta!" My heart stopped.

On my far left, a crowd of girls stepped back before a 12 year old girl.

My sister. Chosen in one of a thousand girls.

"Thalia!" I shrieked as I pushed people out of the way. She looked at me sadly.

"Thalia! Wait!" I shouted again, the white clothed Peacekeepers having to hold me back from Thalia. She was only a few yards away ahead.

"Let me go!" I pulled away free from the guards. Everyone stared at me.

"I volunteer as tribute!" Thalia stared at me with horror stricken eyes. Rosa just smiled greatly.

"Well, well! A volunteer." She says after a long pause. I silently walk up to the stage, trying to ignore my sister's cries.

"Janice!" She screamed, the guards pulling her away. Rosa hugged me. Not of pity or comfort, but for congratulations.

Her hand went into the second bowl and she fished out another slip.

"Portia Wellson!"

My mind went blank for the rest of the reaping.

I had entered the Hunger Games.
