A Savage

You fight. Put your own desires before a human life.

It's for the good of everyone,

You say.

It's for the good of the country,

For the good of the world.

Have you told that to the world?Have you asked it what it thinks?

The world can judge for itself.

Have you told that to the victims?

A woman who weeps on a porch, clutching a letter like a lifeline. Can you hear her sobs?

Have you told her?

Have you told the orphans, the widows, the abandoned? Can you feel their dismay?

They think you are a savage.

Tell them.

See if you still disagree.

Forging Luck

They tell us the winners are lucky.

Chosen at random by something unknown.

Chosen at random to come across luck somewhere, perhaps find it on the street.

Chosen at random to lucky.

That, they tell us, is how they always win.

Determination is nothing.

They tell us the winners are lucky.

Hard work is nothing.

But the winners themselves?

They tell us winners are determined.

Choosing to work hard.Choosing to forge their own luck.

Choosing in their mind they will win.

They tell us determination is everything.

Luck is nothing.

They tell us hard work is everything.

Luck is nothing.
