Challenge
Challenge of the Week C
Innocent Perspective. You can write about anything you want, but the events that unfold must be seen and/or interpreted through the eyes of a child. Perhaps it's something endearing. Or enchanting. Or confusing. Maybe even haunting. Whatever it is, it's a child's experience. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.

Invisible Friend

His name was Zukki. A miniature-sized dragon. He ate with me. Played with me. Slept with me. We'd run through the forest. Take bus rides. He'd help me clean my room, (not so much help there). My mom set a place for him at the dinner table. He went to school with me. There, however, he'd mess around, having learned that he was invisible to everyone else. I'd talk to him, alone in my room, hours on end. He was kind and innocent. He was so wise. He'd blink up at me with big yellow eyes, batting his small lime-green wings. He was one of the best friends I ever had. Little dragon from that other world. Funny how my adult heart can still miss him. Even now. Especially when a mere thought can bring him winging back to my side.

Leaf and the Acorn

First leaf of autumn

— and a

Green acorn

Wasn’t looking…

They just came to me

One Fell

One Floated

I look around

— Red Rock

This land was birthed

— in water

A mighty oak

— in such a small thing

A great mountain

— begun

with a handful of dirt

Four small stones

Four directions

Four races of the

— earth

all this

— built

from a cell

We come —

The Home Maker

The Village Creator

And I see her

— My Sister in the World

And I think:

Being what you are may be hard

It’s still easier than being what you’re not

— for

There is a village

— inside of her

A message

A guide

A trust that —

All This will

— serve

That

(in time)

The timing is always

— right

One green acorn seed

— infinite trust

She will fall

She will not fail

Bruised

— never broken

She is the Creator

— and the Created

From this darkness

— she will bring

Light

In water

— and

Blood

Tears

— nights alone

a child

an idea

a new way of life

Will be born

Love may be drowning

— but still

It has lived

This great mountain

— from that

Handful of dirt

This great tree

— from that tiny acorn

She is the eagle

— though there’s blood on her feathers

Still they float

They Fly…

Like a Leaf

Crawl now

— sweet angel

Cry your tears

For tomorrow

— will reveal

The glory inside you

Be patient

Have faith

— as I so often tell

myself

and we will meet each other

and we will smile

We’ll fall

We’ll not fail

Sister

Friend

All the time we spent

These wee hours

All this must pass

As we remember how —

To build a New World

From these smallest of things

I feel so passionate

A bursting of the skin

A light

A cover

A conduit

To that other world

So many other worlds

There’s so much I feel

So many memories

Crowding around in here

I feel so much love

A bursting of the skin

Snow’s falling

Creating fresh spots on a dead fawn

Snow’s falling

Make it stop

It’s time for spring

In my mind

I feel the world spinning

Vaulting

600 kilometers per second

through the sweeping black

So why do we think we’re standing still?

That nothing’s changing?

Everything’s changing

(every millisecond)

Hang on tight

Things will break apart

Collide

Blow the fuck up

But those pieces go no where

They’re still here

Rearranging

Recollecting

Reframing

Into something brighter

Better

Stronger

Trust me

— never mind that

Trust yourself

That peace you felt

As the world fell down

It’s real

It’s telling you

To hang on

It says

It will all be all right

It will be

“Though we’re in for a few hard times”

It’s real

It’s all real

Don’t let them

Shut you down

Hang you out to dry

Tell you your truth

— is a lie

And still...

You are here

And no one can speak your mind

Or tell you what it means

Things will fall apart

They will, also, come back together

With a higher intelligence

A grander experience

Here

Under the surface

— of a rolling atmosphere

There is sunlight above

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

I have been Reborn

— before

In a mountain cabin

on a hill side

I saw the review

— of the life

I saw the people

the place

knew it was true

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

I have died

given up

cried into the chains of pain

held a knife in my hand

ready to … begin

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

on a cushion

sitting Zen

I became everything

— and nothing

the light erupting

— from

Inside my mind

and I saw…

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

the rage

the hate

the resentment

the shedding off

the hurling out

towards …

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark “

touching the mind of angels

demons

and gods

— to find

they were not so different

from my own

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

what was Is

What Is

has always been

What would I give up

that means so much to me?

What secret would I tell?

That I’ve never told before…

“Ceremonies of Light and Dark”

The light that I shine

The dark that I hide

Both …

a Ceremony

in the Sanctuary of Life

That One

I am that one

Who sits alone in a coffee shop

— observing

Who experiences tears when two people embrace

Who feels disquiet when two dog owners fight outside

I am that one

Who sits alone, writing, in a coffee shop

— observing

But much more than that

— experiencing

The stress of the overwhelmed baristas

The frustration over not being able to find a table

I am that one

Who sits alone in a coffee shop

Taking in the world from a distance

That is too often too intimately close

Who observes

And judges

And then judges the judger with distaste

And returns to

— observing

— feeling (more)

I am that one

That the camera pans to and focuses in on

Sitting alone in the coffee shop

The camera embuing the feeling behind the eyes of the writer

The loner

The observer

I am that one

Who struggles

To make better

Truer

More authentic

More radical

More new

Every single word

In an 800 page novel

I am that one

That sits alone in a coffee shop

That came from no family of name

Of note

Whose strength

Whose fortitude

Whose authenticy

Whose value in this world

Can come from no where

But within

No money

Only one great prospect

No gains

No loving man

Only looks from others

As she sits alone in the coffee shop

— observing

— wondering (if)

— loving

her life

with a tenacity

an authenticity

a completeness

unsurpassed
