Monthly Horror & Thriller Challenge for March.
You've been abducted. When they uncover your face in their compound, you're handed a knife, and instructed to hunt and kill the group of seven before daybreak. It's exactly 11 p.m. For each person you don't kill per hour, you will lose a finger, not a thumb, and if all seven are alive at dawn, then you will also lose your head. You've never been in a fight, let alone killed anyone. They want to be murdered by you, but they want you to earn your life at the same time. So much so, one of your fingers is cut off before they run. You hunt, or you die. How strong is self-preservation? Take us along. Winner is decided by likes, and will receive a crisp $10.00 -Go get them, or don't.

Echoes of Exhaustion: A typewriters tale

In the silence of the city's hum, my typewriter waits,

Each click echoes my exhaustion, my burdens, my fates.

Blank page, empty canvas, aching to be filled,

Words spill out like tears, the truth revealed.

Oyindamola in Poetry & Free Verse

In the heart of flames, shadows dance,

Cleansing whispers, a fiery trance.

Embrace the heat, let it ignite,

As old wounds fade, into the night.

A symphony of crackling cries,

Beneath the moon, the phoenix flies.

From ashes rise, a spirit new,

In the furnace of trials, reborn true.

Scorched memories, seared and charred,

A cleansing by fire, no longer marred.

Through the furnace of pain, we find our light,

In the crucible of trials, we take flight.

So let it burn, let it blaze,

Through the darkest nights, and endless days.

For in the flames, we find our might,

A cleansing by fire, set alight.

July Drabble Challenge: MURRICA
Tell me a story tied to the USA in exactly 100 words. Winning entry will be selected by me and will be a prose, not poetry, submission. Wow me with your lean, mean, American tale in honor of the Fourth of July. Take it in a patriotic direction, an ironic spin, tell a war story, or examine the modern United States with a critical eye (or all of the above). Tie in to the theme in any creative storytelling way you can. I'll read and judge the entries in early August.

Echoes of Liberty

In Liberty Springs, a Fourth of July parade unfolded, celebrating unity and shared ideals. Amidst the numerous cheering crowds, Emma, a young activist, emerged. Her voice shattered the surface, exposing hidden injustices. Inspired, citizens joined her cause, demanding equality and justice. Bridges became symbols of unity, art painted a hopeful vision. The nation stood at a crossroads, choosing to mend divisions or succumb to fractures. They embraced the responsibility to shape a better America, where promise met reality. With each Independence Day, Emma's voice echoed, reminding all that true patriotism lies in the pursuit of a just and equitable society.

Restructuring for Recognition

As I delve into my photo gallery, I stumble upon a familiar sight—an image of the board displaying my common entrance results. The moment captured in that photograph brings a flood of memories back, accompanied by a wide, exuberant smile on my face. My achievement had been proudly showcased for the entire school to see, summarizing the culmination of my hard work. In that instant, everything changed. Life no longer seemed so effortless; my purpose shifted, and my reality underwent a profound transformation. It marked the beginning of a journey where my actions were no longer solely for my own fulfillment but driven by the desire for external validation.

For years to come, my existence became intricately intertwined with the pursuit of recognition. I found myself molding and changing aspects of myself, not for personal growth, but to ensure that my efforts were acknowledged by others. Every endeavor I undertook was influenced by the desire to impress and garner approval. I pursued hobbies that my peers perceived as skillful, and engaged in sports solely to secure medals. It was as if, in those crucial twenty minutes on an ordinary Tuesday, my destiny had been sealed. The rest of my teenage years were mapped out, governed by the need to appear "golden" in the eyes of others. All I craved was the acknowledgment of the painstaking efforts I poured into my endeavors. If it meant sacrificing the innocence and freedom of my early years for the sake of academic validation, so be it. I was willing to trade that price for the fleeting satisfaction of "feeling something."

Writing this essay has forced me to confront the person I once was and provided an opportunity for profound self-reflection. It serves as a testament to my growth, revealing the stark contrast between my eleven-year-old self and the person I have become. At that tender age, I won a scholarship that seemingly destined me for medical school, a path dictated by the expectations of my parents and aunt. I believed it was the only means of breaking free from the limitations of our lives in Nigeria. Yet today, as I submit my application to medical school, my motivation stems from an internal drive rather than external influences. I have come to realize that my calling lies in the power to save lives and genuinely see people, not merely as subjects for recognition after the fact, but as individuals deserving compassion and support long before their pictures are plastered on a wall.

As I embark on this new chapter, I contemplate the meaning of true growth. It is no longer measured solely by external achievements or the applause of others. Instead, it is a journey of self-discovery, personal fulfillment, and making a positive impact on the lives of those around me. I have shed the need for constant validation and embraced the idea that my efforts and worth extend far beyond the walls on which my accomplishments are displayed. Through this transformation, I am beginning to grasp the essence of authenticity, finding solace in pursuing a purpose-driven life that aligns with my own values and aspirations.
