You’re not alone

Face everything and rise

They're gonna clean up your looks

So close no matter how far

Show me how to lie your getting better all the time

Oh well imagine

Don't wanna be an American idiot

Hey there it's good to see you again

I keep going to the river to pray

My lovers got humor she's the giggle at a funeral

Did you stand there all alone

Utopia

If there were some way to know for sure that nothing would ever go wrong in life, everyone would live a boring life. We wouldn't take any risks because there wouldn't be any to take. We wouldn't j-walk then stop and laugh as you felt you heart racing and think to yourself 'I almost died!'. We wouldn't gamble and celebrate so fiercely when we won. We wouldn't clench our chests and squeeze our eyes shut after a kiss. We wouldn't cry and laugh and sing after a baby is born. We wouldn't stand in the wings of a stage shaking and pacing nervously before you're cue. We wouldn't hesitate to say 'I love you.'. We wouldn't be shy and reluctant to speak to new people. We wouldn't eat pufferfish and cry after realizing you're not dead. We wouldn't come to tears after watching Marley and Me. (Old movie, I know. I also don't care. That movie's just sad okay?!) We wouldn't read a book and be filled with desire to live in the story world. We wouldn't write down whatever came to mind as it comes to mind because you're sad, angry, happy, or just plain in the mood to write. We wouldn't be human. We would just stop doing the small things that we do all the time that makes people, people.

Pain spreads as thorns

Pained and broken,

Weaving throughout my black heart

Are thorns, sharp and true.

Shadows

A Darkness lingers where few have traveled,

'Cross a raging river royal as blue.

Those few who wish to may dare to unravel

A spool of light to shine the long way through.

Caution begs thee grasp on this shadowed path.

A howling of the wind snares it's fearful

Prey with a jaded, cackling, wispy laugh.

Weary eyed wanderers, left sorrowful,

And ill met by moonlight upon this dank

And dirty ground. Life, melting as the snow,

Left little to dust. Now, resting by bank,

A creature with brackish red eyes aglow,

Leaves a small gift for those who can bear it,

Open and thou shall see, who lies with it.

Broken

Her laughter broke the silence. She hadn't meant to laugh. It just came out. 'It was funny,' she thought. 'Funny how I could possibly think that, even for a moment, my mother loves me.' Her light chuckle echoed for a moment then faded. She was all alone. She always had been. No father to hold her when she fell and scraped her knee. No mother to kiss her on the forehead and pull her into a loving embrace after her first day at school. No. She never really had parents. She had strangers. Adults who would drink and argue and ignore her unless she was of some use at the moment.

Her father left last week. She found herself thinking 'good riddance' as she watched the man pull out of the drive way with a woman she had never seen before in the passenger seat. Today, her mother gave her a hug and apologized. Then begged for her forgiveness. Pleaded for another chance at being a proper mom. The girl didn't know what to think when she caught the smell of lavender on her mother's clothes. Normally she had the scent of alcohol and cigarette smoke. But it was lavender. It reminded her of a time before. When they still functioned properly. When they weren't a broken home. 'There's no way that woman actually has any form of regard other than hatred for me, right?' A tear slid playfully down her cheek and dropped onto her knee. That was all it took. The first tear had a friend follow closely after, then came the flood. 'I don't know what to do any more. How can I accept my mother as a mom now, when she hasn't been for the past seventeen years?'
