August 2024 Drabble Challenge: First Day of School
Tell me a story in exactly 100 words using the prompt, "First Day of School." Take it in any direction you want, you don't have to use the exact phrase or keywords or anything, but do draw us in with a return to school as your theme. Please use standard punctuation, grammar, and spelling to spin a prose tale for a chance to score a whopper of a prize: TWO WHOLE DOLLARS! All a Dream
The first day of school. Ugh. I was dreading it, after spending a wonderful summer visiting my grandparents in Texas on their horse ranch, well I guess nothing could compare to that.
I swung my legs out from under the cozy quilt and slid into jeans, a t shirt and of course my cowboy boots. I tossed hazelnut hair into a bun. I walked down the hall and into the kitchen. Grandma grabbed my wrist and steered me back up the stairs.
"Emily, you graduated high school already, and besides, its Sunday." She shook her head. "Sleep walking" she muttered.
