what would catharsis be?

knowing that some doors are shut

that some paths can't be retread

when will the doors be shut?

when we're buried

when the earth keeps them tight

in the meantime

if there is hope

it's in finding a new door

one that negates the need

to look back

and wonder

How many different ways have we answered this question throughout lives?

In our youth the answer was

an optimistic (if inexperienced)

yes

In our middling years the answer was

no

that belief was for the young

love is something built

not something found

what of our later years?

we paid for our conceit

and found ourselves
