Trapped In Your Thoughts

Falling through the air

Falling through my mind

Falling through my own thoughts, which are one of a kind.

It's funny, the images the brain can dream up.

The horrors it can imagine if only left to itself.

The hopeless desire for something more;

Something different.

No more time to stand around and dream,

Now fall into your nightmares, your darker thoughts.

For a fleeting eternity, you relive your happiest times

And your worst.

And the cycle never ends; your thoughts are racing, round and round.

You're falling.

And there's nothing you can do.

Just sit, and wait, and fall even deeper into the rabbit hole that's crushing your mind.

No Fault of My Own

It's not the fire

So much as the smoke

That wraps around me

And begins to choke

It's never the fear

But more of the rush

That shoves me forwards

Until my words gush

And only the light

From the fires in the sky

Can bring my heart higher

Can make my spirits fly

But in the middle of my fire

There's a tragedy

My wings may not waver

But I'm pulled by gravity

Challenge
Challenge of the Month VI: April
Something to Lose. What does it feel like to cherish something or someone with every fiber of your being? Is it terrifying, as though any second it could disappear? Or is it a source of comfort, solid ground to stand on, an anchor? Write about having something to lose. $100 purse to the winner. The best entries will be shared with publishers. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.

Everything I Have To Lose

I feel like a haze

Has covered my brain

I've lost myself

In hiding the pain

No longer my own

I'm out of my zone

Feels like the music

Has lost its tone

I'm feeling no shame

I'm probably not sane

But really, who would be

When playing this game?

Why do they say

"Try to be brave"

Most of these people

Know nothing of pain

It's everything I have to lose

But everything to gain

When will this fog turn to a storm

And pour down clearing rain?

Alone

Dead silence

Why is it called such

Crashing down

Like a wave over your head

Dead silence

Hits the ground

And you feel that you might as well

Be dead

Your heartbeat pounds

Resounds so loudly

Complete with a rush in your head

Dead silence

And the only sound to surface

Is the air that you breathe

You're alone

Challenge
What are we supposed to actually extract from pain ?

Pain

Pain

Is a part of me

It's something I've grown used to

Over the years

And it never abates; never ceases, never leaves me

Not even for a second.

It eats away at me

Chews me up and spits me out

But it's not like

I'm not used to it any more

When it's been with me for so long, it's no longer surprising

No longer enough to knock me off my feet

Or leave me gasping for air

It is simply there

Constantly

And it will never stop

But that doesn't make me a

Lifeless

Breathless

Shell of a human being

It makes me strong

Stronger than I realize

But whenever I try to excercize that strength

It seems average to me

With the painful physical barrier in place

So much force remains hidden away

Kept in store

For a single instance

Just one time

To surge past the dam and flood out

It is just waiting.

New Era

One day, an angel descended from the skies in a blaze of ethereal glory, speaking to my village as a whole, and though it was so long ago, I remember exactly what he had said.

"This will be the end of an era; an entrance into war."

And that one sentence ended everything I had ever known.

you.
I love the second person point of view because it is so universal: it could be anyone; it could even be ourselves. My challenge for you: write a piece of poetry or prose so ambiguous that the "you" could apply to anyone, everyone, or no one at all.

Void

Feel the void

Dragging you in

The black oblivion

Caressing your skin

Fade into nothing

And tell yourself

That it is finished

That you’re beyond help

The murmurs of fate

Are old and dead

Just like a whisper

Never been said

Dragged into madness

The screaming persists

You find it a sound

You just can’t resist

Challenge
Write a warning
Any topic or style

Monstrous

Beware, beware

The monster in us all

It sheds its shell

With no warning, it mauls

Beware, beware

I must tell you, my friend

Be vigilant, be wary

Do not meet your end

Careful, careful

Watch your step now

Decide what to do

Before you fall down

Careful, careful

And please, my friend

Do not feel guilty

If a life you must end

Challenge
In fifteen words, contradict yourself as many times as possible.
anything goes.

My Resolution

Unimportant, significant. Decided, unclear. All my joy, all my sorrow. Detatched, but part of me.

Chasm

Chasm

Where my dreams have gone

The deep dark place below

Chasm

Where my breath falls slow

And tiny whispers say hello

Ideas surround me

Old and dead

Never finished

Never said

This is the graveyard

Of your song

Always started

Always wrong

This is the tomb

Of stories in your head

Always started

Never read

This is the cemetery

Of the poem

Always started

Never shown

Chasm

Where these things have gone

Never to return

Chasm

Cast away, so long

These memories we burn
