My bedtime story

Hectic like city streets when the summer heat awakens it's inhabitants whom are now crazed, attempting to relieve their unquenchable thirsts.

Running wild like children on a playground; jumping from structure to structure and shouting to one another, my thoughts are sporadic and restless.

While the world around me lay still in slumber, my brain refuses to yield.

1am

2am

3am

As I drag my ballpoint across the yellow parchment, the chaos slows to a calm stream of metaphors and similes. With each river bend, the thoughts become smooth and tame.

4am- asleep.

The curse: missing

Space

Time

And

Silence

When I'm around I'm here

Here as here can be

From a giggle wiggle

To a silly face

When I'm not around I'm gone

As gone as gone can be

Such silence is pain

Such loss is misery

As simple as simple can be

Missing someone is it's own catastrophe

THE CURSE -frose

Frose

A haunting

The skeletons of our memories together still haunt me.

They shake my bones and freeze my heart. I glance around the room and see your shadow. You're laying next to me and I feel you staring into my eyes. I can feel your breathe on my face but when I reach out to kiss you..you disappear into thin air because you're no more than a memory.

Insomnia

The golden sun christens the previously darkened room and kisses the fluffy white comforter before my subconscious desires can dance across my closed eyelids.

Shreds of Heartache

That night you said goodbye

I slammed your car door shut

Walked up the driveway to my front door

Turned the handle

Pulled it open

Clicked it shut

As I stepped through that doorway

The world around me

Was engulfed in fire

The air thick with heavy black smoke

Stole the breath off my lips

I felt a sharp blow to my chest

Stunned by the pain

Paralyzed

My heart

It broke

It bled

It seized

It exploded

Pieces scattered everywhere

My eyes began to water

Slowly extinguishing the flames around me

Once the fire was out

I got on my hands and knees

Crawling on the ground

Sifting through the debri

I glued the shards of my heart together

But I was missing a piece

After searching high and low I climbed to my feet

Trembling I began to breathe

Not without consequence

With each deep breathe came a sharp pain

Like my heart exploding again

And again

Eventually my legs stopped trembling

But every breath without you still stung like venom in my lungs

The other day I saw the missing piece glistening in the sun

I glued it in the vacant space

Now I breath easy

What smells are nostalgic for you?

Scent and memory

As the rustic smell of burning wood enters my lungs I am instantaneously transported back to warm summer nights in Maine sitting around the camp fire, singing songs and falling in love with the people around me. With every inhale of the fresh mountain air and flame encased logs I feel the love around me enveloping my soul and inspiring my existence.
