My dreams slur and shake as the world comes back into the light,

My body screams as my muscles curl, grinding over my bones.

A strange sensation makes me gag and recoil, I know this is it.

For I know, the cold claws of death have reached my heart,

And everything it holds dear and true, I know this is it.

Like a bird scanning for its’ next meal, my mind twitches,

Desperate to find the answer to it all, knowing in my soul and my stomach,

There are no worms left, no scrap of life crawling to safety,

No beguiling creature waiting to pounce and thrive, this is it, I just know it.
