Squirm in my stomach

Little caterpillars

But soon cocoon

And then bloom

Fluttering my heart

If you see me losing a battle

To hold my laughter in

I hope you see them

Soaring out my mouth

I tasted you in the sunset last night

The pink air stuck in my teeth

like hard candy

Savor you on my tongue

Make my teeth ache

Flood my parched throat

Too fast and choking

Warm my chest

Like a star burning me up

From the inside out

And in this small death

I am reborn in your arms

Our Stardust calling to each other --

We were forged together,

Atoms formed deep in the same star

Waking, slow warm, easing

Through sunbeams and sugar --

The taste of comfort and the smell

Of familiarity in the air

We build and orbit.

The laundry hangs on the line outside,

You wore blue,

I thought it would rain.

You wanted to dance:

Soft sways and tender turns --

Twin flames kindling the other.

Sleep came in the sound of your breath

And the scent of your neck.

I dreamed of lavender and sunflowers.
