June 2024 Drabble Challenge: Get mad, Max.
So I went and watched Furiosa and lemme tellya, I thought it was cinema gold. Absolutely a wild, fun ride. With that in mind, this month's word play is "Get mad, Max." That's your prompt. You don't need to use the phrase at all, just let it inspire you to tell me a prose story in exactly 100 words. It can be Mad Max related, or something angry, or crazy, or post-apocalyptic. Hell, steal some go-juice and head off to Bartertown to duke it out in the Thunderdome. Or not. Whatever. Blow my mind with something epic, but do use standard English and punctuation or honestly I aint even gonna read it. Not that that probably matters to you, but there is a little prize involved. Everybody likes prizes. I'll pick the winner sometime in July, no need to tag me.

Nonchalant

My brother is a big guy—six foot two, has a six-pack, and is a football player. He spends most of his time in the gym, doing pushups or whatever trendy workout is on social media. Meanwhile, I am a skinny ten-year-old kid with arms smaller than a stick. Because of this, the kids would often tease me in the playground. "Look at that walking stick over there!" "There goes the twig!" I swallowed my feelings and continued to play alone in the sandbox, but it still happened every day. So, I went to my brother, who said:

"Get mad, Max!"

"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” — Kahlil Gibran "I’ve died a thousand deaths, each time reinventing myself brighter, stronger, and purer than before. From the midst of destruction, I became the creator of myself. From the midst of darkness, I became my own source of light.” — Cristen Rodgers Wherever it takes you...

凤凰 [resilience]

cramped in a boat, my grandparents

struggle to find space, for everyone

is trying to get out of the mess that is

1920s China—the king has just been

overthrown; his kingdom smashed into

a thousand pieces like a porcelain bowl

falling from its glory; the two sects of China

have gone into war, shooting cannons

and taking blood from their relatives,

yet there go my grandparents, unscathed

and free from the hurricane, starting

once again in an unfamiliar world,

rising from the challenge like a phoenix

spreading its wings and soaring, shining

its golden feathers for all the world to see
