Time Glitch

“I was worried. You could've at least called!” Quinn said, his face a mixture of relief, anger, and worry. “I was stuck in the year 1831. How exactly was I supposed to do that?” I rolled my eyes.

“With the TimeWatch! We literally built it for that purpose!!!” Quinn's voice was close to hysterical. I didn’t say anything, and my best friend's eyes immediately glanced at my wrist.

Note to self- wear long sleeves next time so that Quinn won’t know if you're wearing your TimeWatch or not.

Quinn closed his eyes and inhaled. I was beginning to think that he had fallen asleep when he opened his eyes again. I could tell by the look he was giving me that was going to say the same speech he always did when I forgot my WristWatch or went into a time portal without telling him first.

This time, I had done both.

“Time Portals are not a toy, Ash! And without the TimeWatches, traveling through them is even more of a hazard!” Quinn gave me a desperate look.

I started to drone Quinn out. In a couple more sentences, Quinn would close his eyes to focus better on his speech. And when he did that, I would make my escape.

“You know exactly what would happen if one of us got killed while in a different time! It would be disastrous!” Quinn closed his eyes.

That’s my que, I grinned to myself.

I started inching toward the nearest time portal.

“Hey, Quinn,” I interrupted Quinn from his spiel when I was mere inches from the closest time portal, 1924.

“Yeah?” Quinn opened his eyes. I did a finger salute, and hopped into the portal.

“Asher!!” Was the last thing I heard Quinn yell before plummeting onto a cobblestone alleyway.

I glanced around. It didn’t seem like anybody had seen me. I hated to sound like Quinn, but if anybody saw me appear out of thin air, that could seriously affect the future. And that could result in a change in the timelines, which could potentially… I decided to stop there.
