"The uses of sorrow"
"Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift." (Mary Oliver) Poetry or prose.
A boxful of Sorrow
Someone once gave me a gift
a small polyhedron, parceled and thin
tied with strings, so as to not unfurl
"What for?" I asked unsure,
and heard back, distance unknown,
"I was reminded
of the matchbook girl,
and this...
is a tinderbox
world."
