The Bird With The Broken Wings
I see you've taken me down.
Words hurt me like knives.
I knew in my heart you didn't want to love me;
God knows I'm flying away from your dreadful lies.
God, help me with my broken wings.
I want to fly like an angel, with wings that taught me to love.
God, help me with this sorrow and depression;
Locked in this cage, I can no longer see my way out.
I'm the bird with the broken wings.
I want to learn to fly like those angels in the heavens.
He said God is not real, and he never knew what I believed in.
Every day I go to church, kneel down, and pray.
Soon I will learn to fly and break away from his deceitful lies.
I'm the bird with the broken wings.
The Lord knows I must not depend on him but will learn how to fly.
One night after church,
I saw angels coming into my room, surrounded by love and care.
He may not find me in the room,
but with my prayers answered,
he no longer holds me captive.
The sky seems blue, and the heavens have called.
I finally learned to lean on myself and find my happiness, but I won't be scared to love again. I was the bird with the broken wings.
Inspired by the song Broken Wings Martina Mcbride, It was written for my mom in domestic abuse.
