A Body on the First of January.
A couple moved on New Year's Day,
To the village from which she ran away,
Her husband, loving but initially wary,
Decided it best for her to play Returning Mary,
Mother-in-law, widowed as of late,
Smiled and asked if there was any wait,
For why would they both decide to come
If there was no child in her daughter's tum-tum?
She was disappointed, to say the least,
And decided to attend to an early sleep,
The two lovers argued, back and forth,
And before he left, he insulted her worth,
The next morning, they found his body,
Poisoned to death, but by anybody,
So who could have done this ghastly sin?
The now widowed wife, or the disappointed kin?
