Superman
My dad told us he was Superman when we were little
We didn't believe him but would laugh and giggle.
Show us, prove it, we would demand.
But of course, laser eyes don't work on command.
But he is superman, I see it now
He carries the weight of the world, but his shoulders never bow.
He works 5 jobs but only gets paid for one
And he never stops until the job is done.
My father is brave, and a strong man,
He protects all, not just those in his clan.
He makes me feel safe, with him I'm secure.
And he shows me how to keep my way pure.
He is witty, and intelligent too,
it seems there is nothing that he can't do.
He's a storyteller, he brings magic to our home,
He tells incredible fantasies or shares personal stories of his own.
And he never yells, unless it's to cheer.
When I'm with him, I feel no fear.
He's a problem solver, coming up with a plan.
If dad can't fix it, no one can.
He's a teacher, enthusiastic and kind.
He uses tough love to strengthen his student's minds.
He sees and understands things I will never know.
He gives me space when I need it and pushes me to grow.
He thanks my mom whenever she makes food,
and he can pull me out of any bad mood.
He always gives good gifts and surprises.
And I could sit and listen for hours as he advices.
He is the one who taught me to drive a car
and I love to sing when we play the guitar.
My favorite thing is as we sit around the table
Dad entertains us all with jokes and fables.
He is the kind of person I aspire to be
to have the kind of love that he offers for free.
For my dad is superman, without laser eyes or super speed.
He is the kind of father that this girl needs.
