Let Me Smile

The demon lives in a dark room

Forming my wretched thoughts

The demon dances in a red dress

Seductively insisting mental rot

The demon rejects any emotion

To protect me from…well, myself

But is it the lacking inside that is real

With the yearning for blood that I felt

I pretend to be someone I am not

Sometimes it’s easier just to disappear

Everyone’s else’s lives look like a movie

Put on display for me to see and hear

One day, the demon will let me smile

Passing from languid rejection to glee

One day, the demon will lose his grip

And I won’t have to pretend to not be me
