Seeking the Dead

Searching for the words inside my head

Looking for the monster waiting to be fed

Finding the story that wants to be read

I silence my thoughts by seeking the dead

Walking on a dark, moonless road

I think back to that time long ago

Where the future was mine to make

And there was no such thing as a mistake

I’ll scuff the soles of my shoes on the ground

The sound echoing, but I will never be found

Alone at the bottom of God knows where

I’ll sit and cry with nobody to hear

The steps I take are long and slow

My pace is marked with my empty sorrow

Sadness I carry in depths of my eyes

When I bleed a little part of me dies

The path looms far in front of me

And my movement is lingering as I breathe

I’ll talk to myself as I weep

The secrets of yours I will always keep

As you have forever been sentenced to sleep

I’m seeking the dead as I laugh

Approaching a new route, the old one too dark

But I don’t notice I’m too busy dying

Too tired of trying, of lying

Measured footsteps on the floor

Above me heaven opens its doors

The rain pours over me and I am free

Finally content with who I am meant to be

So now when I no longer breathe

I am irrevocably at peace

With the living dead.
