Forbearance

I woke up for a midnight hunt

To chase off demons that refused to leave.

I asked the moonbeams to come along

And take me where the wild things bleed.

The cold dead night hugged me tight

And promised me one endless sleep.

But who knew, I still had some fight

To step back from that final leap.

A whiff of grass, the touch of a hand,

The softness of a cotton drape –

They pull me back, every night that I hear

The certain call of charging fate.
