Purpose in the story thus far: To screw with Gareth.

Background thus far/Backstory: Captured and replaced by the Nameless one, Brian was taken to the Nameless One’s realm and tortured for years, due to the accelerated time, there. In the real world, he’d only been missing for a few days.

Purpose in the story thus far: More backstory for Gareth and something for Brian to care about.

Background thus far/Backstory: At the age of five, it was observed that Gareth seemed to be having conversations with himself. From that point on, Sarah smothered Gareth, turning into a helicopter parent, massively overprotective, convinced he was a frail, helpless, useless cripple.
