Burn

She walks upright

No shame on her face

As they jeer and scream

The wood is ready

Laid out like a nest

Ready for the crackle

That will hit and spit

The men yell

They want her to hear

Their fear and hate

For a woman with mettle

She did no evil

Just helped

Just healed

Just hoped

But she did it on her own

For that

She must burn

She walks onto her nest

Of wood and thorns

Her bare feet press

Onto the harsh boards

They tie her up

With a harsh cord

A rope to contain

All that she owns

And then they prepare

To Burn Her

Her power

Her grace

Her right

From their Torches

The flames

Lick the boards

First gently

Then strongly

until she too is touched

by the tongues of light

that will ignite her

into the night.
