Desert Rose

I came across a desert rose

It faced the desert floor

To die or live forevermore

The sower hardly knows

Petals weeping, softly falling

Covering the earth below

Giving scent and taking hope

Ignoring her Creator's calling

Dare I leave? Can't look away 

Until I've had the rose as mine

Hand and thorn to intertwine

Til after beauty fades to gray

Though I bleed, I love her so

My shepherdess, my desert rose
