Winter is Relative

There might come a time when

winter is not about snow fall but

about the whitewashed stucco

the slide of anticipatory dial tone

the noise of a vehicle but for now

it's about the picture postcard

softly falling fireside the curl

of smoke that escapes the mouth

of a mountain man lying on

the ground not sure if dead or

sleeping sound in nighting gown

obscuring the coolness of forehead

and collected reason of a silver capped

fountain pen in the pool of moonlight

that broaches the outside of the sill

with unearthly silences to wake...
