Sentinel

Majestically standing perched above

Hazed over moonlight tries disbanding

Piercing eyes search the crawl of the night

Breath of breeze keeps everything slight

Quiet crackle in the distance

Causes sudden breath of resistance

Is it prey or is it foe

Shadows shimmer as they grow

Muscles tense, heart races

Peering through open spaces

gathering weapons near

Tightening my hold on my spear

Talons open if need to thrash

Preparing for bloody bath

Glimmer of light shows no enemy

Gulp of hunger lightly grows

As the stir of dinner moves below

Eyes move quickly as to fallow

Wings spread to prepare

Diving through the misty air

With one strong swoop through the night

Claws held open to it right

Grip they prey at last

Glide back up where I was last

Looking at what I need

With my prey I finally feed

Perched back up on my stand

Looking for who's next for me to brand
