Write a poem about Jesus- but describing him as something that is translated through your senses, maybe as the pleasing aroma of mountain air, the taste of fresh figs, the feeling of holding an ice cube too long... Match your relationship with him to the relationship you have with whatever you chose to describe him with- make it personal and true to your own experience. A prize will be awarded.

Naysayers, Nayprayers

There are those who say

He was just a man

He never rose

He never existed

There are those who say

He was just a bum

He was just a criminal

He was just a rebel

There are those who say

Miracles are bullshit

I argue by asking

What was in it for him?

And I answer

Nothing

Pain

Betrayal

Death

Why would a man choose

Suffering, betrayal, death?

Why would a man who taught

Love

Forgiveness

Tolerance

Even to the point of loving enemies

Why would he

Matter?

He mattered because of these very things

These ideas

That rose from the dead

In times where love and forgiveness and tolerance were dead

Listen to the message and those who say are right--

It doesn't matter:

The way was better than the man

Because the way was God

And there are those who say

He was both
